Freshwater Lake Tourism Object - Freshwater Lake is a lake and tourist area located in the Gayo Highlands, Central Aceh District, Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam. The Gayo tribe calls this lake the Fresh Ocean Lake. It has an area of approximately 5,472 hectares with a length of 17 km and a width of 3.219 km. Laut Tawar Lake is called by the name Sea because the water area of this lake is very wide. Likewise with the name Bid, because the water in this lake is fresh water.
The existence of Freshwater Lake aside from being a tourist attraction, this lake is also used as a source of water for Central Aceh District and several other districts in the vicinity. The panorama around Freshwater Lake which is flanked by two hills presents its own beauty for those of you who visit the Freshwater Lake Tourism Object.
In Freshwater Lake, there is also one species of fish that only exists here, namely the depth fish. This fish, which has the Latin name Rasbora Tawarensis, is shaped like an ornamental fish with a slender body the size of a thumb, and shiny white scales.
Based on folk legend, Freshwater Lake took place from the story of a princess who married a man from another kingdom, which was not sanctioned by her parents.
When leaving the palace, the princess received a message not to look back during the trip. But the princess forgot, so there was thunder and lightning and heavy rain that made the princess fall down and cry. The rain and tears of the Princess are then believed to be the source of the formation of Freshwater Lake.
